Dear MAO,
Being both an officer and member over the past four years has truly opened my eyes to see Mu Alpha Theta as more than just our school math club. MAO, rather than just a group of random students, to me, is a family. From playing limbo with fourth and fifth graders to celebrating Thanksgiving together at Pecan Park like any other family, MAO is the one organization at Austin which really transcends beyond the walls of Austin High School.
We broadened our horizons to make MAO more than just an annual grind. We made MAO a culture, having frequent socials and more bonding between members. I, for a fact, have met so many new and amazing people at meetings and socials, some of them even shaping to be some of my best friends.
This past year, we really did make MAO flow beyond recurring themes of division, and instead we made them about addition. We built a coalition for change that stretched from 4th graders at Mini Mathletes all the way to our very own seniors, all uniting in a passion for mathematics and learning. I truly believe we left an impact so great on the generations below us, rallying them to follow in our footsteps. It’s only by working together, officers, sponsors, and members, that we achieved our goals this year. I absolutely believe we, as an organization, have left a mark on AHS and a legacy for both you and I.
MAO’s success would not be put together without the unrelenting diligence of a few individuals. Mrs. Grigassy and Mrs. Nicholson have been absolutely amazing – putting up with my constant questions and emailing, always being of support when I was a little stressed out, and just amazing people to connect with. I truly will miss working under their guidance and support. As for my officer team, I was truly blessed with an officer team like none other. Senior officers did a fantastic job putting our finishing touches on MAO, and junior officers, while y’all still have a long way to go, I am excited and ready to see all the great work y’all will do this upcoming year. Of course, thank you to members for being part of the best club at Austin because it truly would not be such an amazing club without your dedication and support.
From the looks of it, we have a great foundation, and a lot of potential. The ideas junior officers have been lining out have been impressive. I genuinely have great hope and confidence in their ability to use their potential next year, ultimately keeping the MAO legacy at Austin running.
There’s a reason MAO is so popular and so great at Austin – it’s the one club everyone truly loves.
Sincerely,
Jake Joseph, President, 2017-2018
